The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported an additional 290 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and confirmed 17 new COVID-19-related deaths across the state Saturday, bringing the state’s confirmed coronavirus death toll to 8,406.In addition to the total of 110,077 confirmed cases in Massachusetts, state health officials also reported 138 new probable cases for a total of 7,963 probable cases. State health officials said that Saturday’s case count appears higher than usual due to ongoing delays in the reporting of test results to the DPH from multiple laboratories. BOSTON —

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported an additional 290 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and confirmed 17 new COVID-19-related deaths across the state Saturday, bringing the state’s confirmed coronavirus death toll to 8,406.

In addition to the total of 110,077 confirmed cases in Massachusetts, state health officials also reported 138 new probable cases for a total of 7,963 probable cases.

State health officials said that Saturday’s case count appears higher than usual due to ongoing delays in the reporting of test results to the DPH from multiple laboratories. The positive test results, however, have been retrospectively assigned to the date the test was administered.

As of Saturday, 369 patients with the coronavirus were hospitalized in Massachusetts, an increase of 22 patients in relation to what the state reported Friday. Of those patients, 53 were reported to be in an intensive care unit.

As of July 29, weekly data shows that 97,595 patients have been released from isolation, meaning they are considered to have recovered from the virus.

New data is published daily around 4 p.m.
