RALEIGH, NC (WITN) – State health officials say more than a third of the deaths from the coronavirus have occurred in nursing homes and residential care facilities.

There are at least 182 confirmed deaths across the state. The Department of Health & Human Services says 53 of those happened at nursing homes, while another 13 took place at residential care facilities.

Nearly 1,200 cases of the virus have happened at those facilities, according to DHHS.

People 25-49 continue to lead with the most number of cases, nearly 40%, while those 65 and old make up 85% of the deaths.

Pitt County is now reporting a second death due to COVID-19.

A person in their 60s with underlying medical conditions died last week from complications.

As of Monday afternoon, Pitt County has reported 92 cases of COVID-19.

The new Pitt County fatality raises the statewide death toll to at least 182.

Earlier today, Wayne County announced two more deaths, bringing that county’s total to six.

The latest deaths happened at a long term care facility with one patient in the 80’s and another in their late 60s. Both had underlying medical conditions, according to the county.

Cases in Wayne County continue to jump. The county reported 112 new cases between Sunday and Monday.

The county now has 575 cases. Neuse Correctional Institution has 458 positive cases, the county says.

Craven County reported a new death after a resident died Sunday at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

Statewide, there are at least 6.764 confirmed cases in 93 of the state’s 100 counties.
