UPDATE: OU Medicine provides update on staffing capacity and surge plans
OU Medicine continues to accept COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients, but has a surge plan in place in case it’s needed, a spokesperson said Monday.“OU Medicine is now, and has been since the onset of the pandemic, able to provide care to our ICU patients. Our current staffing capacity includes existing ICU beds and staffing for beds should we need to activate our phase 1 surge plan,” officials said in a new statement to KOCO 5. That statement came after a spokesperson mistakenly told KOCO 5 that Phase 1 of the surge plan had already been activated. The spokesperson later corrected that statement, telling KOCO 5 the surge plan has not been activated yet and that the previous statement was incorrect. The additional ICU beds are available in case they are needed, the spokesperson said.As of Friday, July 17, officials with the Oklahoma State Department of Health said 547 were hospitalized due to COVID-19. The latest number of current hospitalizations has not been released. Oklahoma health officials also said that due to technical data entry issues, the case counts on Sunday and Monday were low and do not reflect real-time data.
