A 38-year-old man, allegedly in possession of heroin worth more than R1.4 million, was arrested in Durban on Saturday.
According to police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala, police officers patrolled Wakesleigh Road in Bellair after receiving complaints of drug-related activities in the area.
“One kilogram of pure heroin and 35 000 capsules of heroin were recovered from the suspect. He was swiftly arrested and taken to Bellair police station for detention. He will be appearing in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon, facing a charge of possession of drugs. The recovered drugs have an estimated street value of R1 450 000,” Gwala said.
KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula hailed the arrest and commended the dedication of the arresting officers to remove drugs from the province’s streets.
