The number of cases associated with Sanford area funeral and reception have risen, Maine CDC says
The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Saturday a rise in cases associated with a Sanford area funeral and reception on Aug. 31.That number now sits at 10 total cases associated with those gatherings. The funeral took place outdoors at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale, and the reception occurred indoors and outdoors at Sanford American Legion Post 443 on Main Street in Springvale, according to the Maine CDC. Individuals who attended the funeral and reception who have since been confirmed are said to have visited social clubs in the area, potentially exposing others at those clubs. The Maine CDC says they’ve opened outbreak investigations for the reception, which now also includes the funeral, and for multiple social clubs earlier this week. Close contacts of confirmed cases have been notified. Links to the social club have been determined through epidemiological investigations. Anyone who attended the following clubs on the following dates were potentially exposed to the virus and should contact their health care provider: Sanford Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9935 on Hutchenson Street in Sanford from Aug. 24 to present (outbreak opened 9/11/2020).
