MELROSE PARK, Ill.– The Melrose Park Authorities Department has actually confirmed the death of one of their own.
Officer Joseph Cappello died Friday.
The department launched a short declaration that stated:
Officer Cappello was an essential part of the Melrose Park Authorities Department and he will be missed out on.
Cappello passed away at Gottlieb Health center due to issues for COVID-19, a representative from the department stated.
His body was carried from the health center to a funeral home around 3 p.m. Friday. The procession passed by the officer’s house.
Melrose Park Mayor Ron Serpico told WGN Cappello retired from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office after more than 20 years of service and came on the police department two years ago.
According to Serpico, Capello got ill more than three weeks earlier and remained in the healthcare facility on a ventilator in the ICU
He stated Cappello’s family told him he started to improve, however then went quickly downhill.
Serpico said the department has been alert about safety for very first responders, offering them with enough PPE and developing new procedures.

Cappello comes from an authorities household. His daddy a retired Chicago police officer and his son presently works for the Chicago Authorities Department.
