Dallas County reported two new coronavirus-related deaths Monday, bringing the countywide total to 84.
The deaths were of a Dallas man in his 40s and a woman in her 70s who was a resident of a long-term care facility in Richardson. Both had been critically ill in a hospital, officials said.
Of all the deaths reported, about 40% have been associated with long-term care facilities, the county said.
Officials also reported 91 more cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 3,105.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that Monday’s numbers do not take into account any cases from labs that were closed Sunday.
“After we see numbers for tomorrow and Wednesday, we should get a glimpse into which way this week is trending,” he said.
The Dallas County numbers were released ahead of Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement allowing the statewide stay-at-home order to expire Thursday — clashing with Dallas County’s order.
“The CDC, public health and medical and hospital communities are already aligned and I’m following their lead,” Jenkins said before the governor’s news conference. “I believe a science-based approach gives us our best opportunity to save lives and open the economy in a way that will keep it open.”
Collin County
There were 13 new COVID-19 cases reported Monday in Collin County. No additional deaths related to the virus were reported.
The county has recorded 676 cases of the disease, with 17 deaths and 463 recoveries. Twenty-nine patients remain hospitalized, according to the county’s data.
Denton County
Twelve new positive coronavirus tests were reported Monday in Denton County, along with five recoveries from the virus.
The county has had a total of 725 cases, with 20 deaths and 344 recoveries.
Tarrant County
Tarrant County officials reported 72 cases of COVID-19 on Monday, the fewest in a week.
There have been 2,019 cases of the virus and 53 deaths in Tarrant County. Officials say 289 patients have recovered.
On Friday, the county had reported 147 cases — the most for any North Texas county on a single day since the outbreak started.
Rockwall County
Two new COVID-19 cases were reported Monday in Rockwall County.
The patients, both in their 60s, live in Fate and Rockwall.
The county has had 72 total cases of the illness.
Kaufman County
Kaufman County officials reported three new positive coronavirus tests Monday, raising the county’s total to 73.
No Kaufman County residents have died from the virus, and 38 are presumed to have recovered.
Johnson County
Four more COVID-19 cases were reported in Johnson County over the weekend, officials said Monday.
There has been a total of 73 cases, with 38 patients released from isolation. Three county residents have died, including one who was out of state.
