TAR HEEL, N.C. (WECT) – The Bladen County Health Department confirmed favorable reports of the coronavirus at the Smithfield Food plant in Tar Heel Saturday morning.
Journalism release from the department’s director, Dr. Teresa Duncan, said regional, state, and national companies are working closely to secure the health and safety of employees and to mitigate more spread of the virus.
” The health and well-being of the workers is our first top priority,” said Duncan.
The release didn’t define how many cases have actually been validated at the plant. While the county is validating there are positive cases, the company is not. Saturday afternoon, a public relations representative for Smithfield said over e-mail that they are not validating any positive cases of COVID-19 at their centers out of respect for their workers’ legal personal privacy.
