The Oregon Health Authority on Friday reported two new deaths from the novel coronavirus, bringing the toll to 161 people, as known cases climbed to 4,570.
A 63-year-old Multnomah County man and a 96-year-old Marion County woman were the latest people to succumb to the disease, health officials said. Both had underlying medical conditions.
In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 97 new confirmed and presumptive coronavirus cases.
They were in 16 of Oregon’s 36 counties: Benton (5), Clackamas (6), Deschutes (1), Douglas (1), Hood River (9), Jefferson (9), Klamath (1), Lincoln (4), Linn (3), Malheur (1), Marion (17), Multnomah (12), Umatilla (1), Wasco (3), Washington (20), Yamhill (4).

County case totals: Two counties — Multnomah and Marion — have more than 1,000 coronavirus cases each. Six counties — Washington, Clackamas, Deschutes, Linn, Umatilla and Polk — have reported 100 coronavirus cases or more. Gilliam and Wheeler have reported none.
Here’s the overall count — confirmed and presumptive cases — by county: Baker (1), Benton (62), Clackamas (339), Clatsop (45), Columbia (16), Coos (32), Crook (6), Curry (7), Deschutes (134), Douglas (29), Grant (1), Harney (1), Hood River, (37), Jackson (69), Jefferson (55), Josephine (23), Klamath (45), Lake (2), Lane (80), Lincoln (27), Linn (124), Malheur (33), Marion (1,028), Morrow (12), Multnomah (1,236), Polk (100), Sherman (1), Tillamook (6), Umatilla (125), Union (6), Wallowa (2), Wasco (32), Washington (775) and Yamhill (79).
Death toll: At least 161 people have died from the virus. They are from 12 counties — 63 people from Multnomah, 27 from Marion, 18 from Washington, 12 from Polk, 12 from Clackamas, nine from Linn, seven from Yamhill, five from Benton, three from Umatilla, three from Lane, one each from Josephine and Wasco.
Their ages ranged from 36 to 100. Among them, 92 men have died and 69 women have died. All but three had underlying medical conditions.

Senior care homes: Nearly six out of 10 coronavirus deaths in Oregon — 90 — are associated with a care center, a newsroom analysis of state data shows. More than 560 senior care home residents, staff and close contacts from 69 nursing, assisted and retirement homes have contracted the coronavirus.
Testing: Another 3,930 people received coronavirus test results, up from the previous day’s 2,639, according to figures published on the Oregon Health Authority’s website.
So far, 143,118 Oregonians have been tested for the illness since the state confirmed its first case on Feb. 28.
Ages: Cases are so far spread evenly among people in their 20s (17%), people in their 30s (17%), people in their 40s (17%) and people in their 50s (17%).
The breakdown: 0-9 (85), ages 10-19 (194), ages 20-29 (755), ages 30-39 (788), ages 40-49 (789), ages 50-59 (768), ages 60-69 (572), ages 70-79 (363), ages 80-plus (252).
Gender: 2,364 cases are among women, or 52%, and 2,201, or 48%, are among men.
Hospitalizations: At least 819 of the state’s COVID-19 patients, or 18%, have been hospitalized at some point during their illness, according to the health authority.
Most — at least 612 — have been 50 or older.
The hospitalizations breakdown by age: 0-9 (6), ages 10-19 (4), ages 20-29 (41), ages 30-39 (56), ages 40-49 (100), ages 50-59 (142), ages 60-69 (180), ages 70-79 (168), ages 80-plus (122).
Currently, 59 people with confirmed coronavirus cases are hospitalized, including 24 in intensive care and 11 on ventilators.
Recoveries: At least 2,214 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the illness, or 49 percent, the health authority said.
Nationwide: Confirmed coronavirus cases stood at nearly 1.9 million. The death toll climbed past 108,000.
