Models show 80% chance Nevada has reached peak 

The Washoe County Health District said Friday that models show there is an 80 percent chance that Nevada has already reached the peak of coronavirus cases. 

The model that local health officials are using is from the Los Alamos National Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy lab that has been tracking COVID-19 cases and using a statistical model of how cases are spreading. 

“There is a 20 percent chance that the peak is ahead of us,” said Washoe County Health District Officer Kevin Dick.

16th COVID-19 patient dies in Washoe County

 COVID-19 has claimed its 16th victim in Washoe County, a woman in her 90s with underlying health conditions, Washoe Health District Officer Kevin Dick announced in a press briefing.

To date in Washoe County, 588 people have tested positive. Forty have been hospitalized and 119 people have recovered.

The hospital capacity in Washoe County, according to Dick:

• 54 percent of licensed and staffed short-term acute beds are occupied.
• 49 percent of ICU beds are occupied
• 28 percent of ventilators are in use.

3,524 cases of COVID-19 statewide

Friday, 7: 35 a.m.

The number of Nevadans to test positive for COVID-19 reached 3,524 cases on Friday, according to the latest data from the Nevada Health Alliance. It represents an increase of 203 known cases since the Alliance’s initial report Thursday morning.

The number of people who have died from the virus is 142, an increase of five from Thursday morning.

So far, 29,762 people statewide have been tested for the coronavirus. It’s likely the true number of people that have the disease is higher than what has been reported, as a limited testing capacity has restricted the number of people who can be screened.

Clark County cases jump by 113

Another 113 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Clark County and three more have died, according to numbers released by the Southern Nevada Health District on Friday morning.

That brings the totals there to 2,738 known cases and 124 deaths attributed to the virus.

The increase breaks a three-day stretch of decreasing new case numbers in the southern Nevada county.

State death toll rises to 142; 15th person dies in Washoe County

Thursday

Nevada’s death toll from COVID-19 is now at 142, up from 137 earlier today, according to the latest numbers from the state.

The number of positive cases for the novel coronavirus is also at 3,321 Nevadans. The state reports that 28,451 people have been tested so far for the disease. About 35% of cases involve people ages 30 to 49.

Another Washoe County resident has also died of COVID-19, the 15th person in the county to die of coronavirus, according to a release from the Washoe County Health District.

That person was a woman in her 80s with underlying health conditions.

The county also reported 23 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 additional recoveries. So far, 572 Washoe County residents have contracted COVID-19.

Thirty-eight people are currently hospitalized, an increase of six patients since Wednesday.

So far, 54 percent of acute-care beds are occupied, 49 percent of ICU beds are occupied, and 23 percent of ventilators are in use.
