SAN FRANCISCO (KGO)– Over 10%of knowledgeable nursing facilities in the Bay Area are amongst the hardest struck by the COVID-19 pandemic in California, according to data released by state health officials on Friday.
For the first time, the California Department of Public Health released the names of the centers who have been impacted. According to the data, 258 places throughout the state have actually reported one or more favorable COVID-19 cases in homeowners or staff members.
Officials stated the list is a photo representing 86%of the state’s 1,224 experienced nursing facilities that have reported information within the last 24 hours.

More than half of the centers, 148, are located in Los Angeles County. Among the worst break outs is at the Brier Oak on Sunset center, which reported that 80 locals and 62 team member evaluated favorable for the coronavirus.
The new information drew a fast reaction from union leaders, who called it a “clarion call to action for everyone.”
” This fatal pandemic is targeting our most susceptible senior citizens. Those charged with taking care of them– low wage employees, often females– are walking into infection zones without the most basic of defenses,” said April Verrett, president of Service Employees International Union Local 2015, in a statement.

Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the L.A. County Department of Public Health, said Friday that 20 assisted living home or care centers in the county have actually had outbreaks of 20 or more individuals evaluating positive.
” We are especially concerned about the frustrating number of locals living in our retirement home who have actually died. I have actually asked for additional support from our state and federal partners so we can collaborate to ensure that our retirement home are as safe as possible for locals and employees.
